To stay true to the choice and commitment we need to shake off what militates against EXCELLENCE. For instance, the lukewarm attitude of complacency. I would like to bring to your attention, two major symptoms of complacency:
1. Satisfaction with things as they are. Writing to Philippians, Paul says “Not that I have already grasped it all or have become perfect, but I press on…” Phil 3:12. Complacency convinces you that you have already grasped it, there is no need to press on, Excellence beckons you to keep striving and pressing on. Are you affiliated with complacency or excellence?
2. Rejection of things as they might be. With complacency, good enough becomes today’s watchword and tomorrow’s standard. Fear of the unknown, mistrust of the untried, and abhorrence of the new are hallmarks of complacency. Complacent people take the path of least resistance, like water they follow the easiest course – downhill.
Commit to Excellence: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going” Ecclesiastes 9:10.
Change your mindset about Excellence: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit” Aristotle.
Meditate Excellence: “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything, worthy of praise, dwell on these things” Philippians 4:8.
Clive Staples Lewis writes “It is hard, but the sort of compromise we’re hankering after is harder it is impossible. We are like eggs at present. And we cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.” You can’t just go on being an ordinary, decent Christian, giving God part of your life and effort while holding back the rest. Either you are hatched and learn to fly or you are a dud that will soon start to shrink.]]>
The police chaplaincy department plays a pivotal role in the organization. It is the department that offers spiritual and welfare services to the police force and their dependents. It is also the department that oversees the Commissioner General’s welfare fund, a fund that caters for the orphaned and vulnerable members both within the police force and in society at large. Most important of all, the chaplaincy department takes care of the police forces hearts, spirits and souls. In his address, our General Manager, Bradford Smith underscored the indispensable role that chaplains play in the force; “The police’s heart, the police’s spirit, the police’s soul, are everything. Unless the police’s soul sustains him, he cannot be relied on and will fail himself and his commander and his country in the end”.
As ZimWorX Ministry we have taken this step as an exhibition of faith in action. This was reiterated by the Commissioner-General in his address when he quoted James 2: 14-17 “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus, also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead”.
The chaplaincy department has been heavily incapacitated. Our intervention was timely and it will go a long way in motivating, not just the chaplaincy department but the entire police force. We deliberately targeted the chaplaincy department because our donation was not just a charitable gesture but an exercise in Ministry- an exercise deeply rooted in our Growing Together Culture.]]>

There is a ministry dimension to the participation strategy. At the end of each quarter, we select the top participant based on the number of appearances and the level of participation. The top winner gets the privilege to select 4 families from his neighbourhood to receive food hampers. In the pictures, we see the 1st Quarter winner, Bongani handing over groceries to the families in his neighbourhood. Bongani’s win at the workplace became the win of 4 families in the community. I (Ps Abe) visited the families with Bongani. It was a humbling encounter, getting into people’s homes, listening to them talking about how tough life has become especially the grannies, telling them about ZimWorX and praying together.
The recipients could not decipher how, out of the blue, a company could just think of helping them. One of the grannies said in her prayer, “God bless ZimWorX for extending a helping hand to us during these times of great selfishness”. But why do we do what we do? The answer is very simple, we do what we do because of who we are. We are not just a business; we are also a ministry that seeks to make an impact in the lives of the less privileged members of society. We believe sharing with others what God has blessed us with is an exercise of responsible stewardship.]]>
Our Growing Together Culture is animated by the win-win-win philosophy. We are all motivated by winning – that is a social fact. Unfortunately, this can lead to excessive competition to outdo the other. At ZimWorX, our approach to winning is not undergirded by the quest to out-do each other but rather by the desire to make everyone win. It’s a win because of and not at the expense of the other.
As Pastoral Care, we have designed ways in which our employees can realize small but meaningful wins in the workspace. These small wins spur them on to bigger wins for themselves, the company and the clients we serve. One of these ways devised is the Points for Participation campaign. This is a results-based model of incentivizing employees for their contribution to the goal of transforming our workplace from simply being an office to being a community where people are safe to pray, learn and grow together.
Today, our General Manager, Brad handed over T-Shirts to our top winners for February. They were #focussed and they #participated. To our winners we say, congrats- keep winning because your win is everyone’s win.]]>
Through their resilience, dedication, sacrifice and ingenuity in 2020, we were able to reach out to more than 400 families under ChengaOse who were in dire need of food during the April-September lockdown. We also cushioned Nyararai Children’s Home through monthly provisions of food and other basic necessities. At Triple S Centre of Hope, a water well was drilled, giving children access to clean water. All these would not have been possible without these care-givers.

The food hampers handed over are just a small gesture from a big heart saying “we appreciate you; we acknowledge your relentless efforts and sacrifices in helping the less privileged and we thank you for the gift that you are in your communities” Due to the travel restrictions and the public gathering guidelines, we only invited representatives from the three centres.]]>“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mahatma Gandhi
It is an important part of human nature to belong. The best way of belonging is immersing yourself in the community and helping those that need it. Chenga Ose Association (COA) is a light at the end of the tunnel for mothers of children with disabilities. It is the Olive branch to a community that has been cast away and neglected. Chenga Ose, which means ‘all considered’. It is a Christian based support program developed by Pastor Lucia and Davis Mambure after having given birth to their differently-abled son Tapona. Chenga Ose Association was established in 2008 in the hope of renewing the hope and future for those with disabilities and their families. COA’s scope reaches the five provinces of Zimbabwe and directly cares for and empowers more than three hundred individuals with disabilities and their families. After realizing the shortage of support for families of the disabled, Lucia set out to develop one. She appealed to the Ministry of Gender which told her to come back when she had assembled a group of people with a similar issue as her. The aim of the support groups is to dispel the myth surrounding physical and mental disabilities. It caters to people with different disabilities such as autism, mental health disorders, and many others. The association is an advocate for those with disabilities to have access to learning opportunities, job creation, health care, and overall better living conditions. It has grown significantly in the last decade. Chenga Ose has over three hundred members, including caregivers in five provinces. Through the support groups, caregivers have an opportunity to discuss the nature of their children’s disabilities. Additionally, they are able to discuss the challenges they face in trying to cope with the responsibilities of parenting and that of functioning in society.
